Financing options for first-time home buyers?

What sort of assistance is available for those interested in buying their first home? Financing deals? Any sort of tax break?
Is there an organization I should contact?
I’m looking in the Chicago suburbs (northwestern suburbs); I’m not sure if that makes a difference at all.

go to your local bank and ask them, they have people there to assist you
