How do you transfer funds from a brokerage account to a bank savings account?

Here’s my question:
Let’s say I sold some securities and made 00. How do I get that cash from my online brokerage account (such as Scottrade) into my bank’s savings account?

I am wondering about others’ experiences and reccomendations for such accounts… and is it better to do it through a brokerage firm, a bank or another provider?
Why do financial institutions open brokerage accounts, if they offer brokerage services as well?
